Beyond The Horizon Initiative:

Pillar 1: EDUCATION & SCHOOL MENTORSHIP PILLAR

BtH initiative believes that every child deserves to see possibilities beyond their current state /environment.

This is my firsthand experience. Education helped me to get to where I am today, even though I am still on the journey to greatness. I hold bittersweet memories of my childhood, from the retrogressive cultural practices like FGM, Forced marriage, discrimination against women & girls, to general poverty like lack of food, clothes/uniforms, learning materials, school fees, etc. I cannot imagine where I would have been if not for the chance and support I got through my educational journey.

This fuels our school-based mentorship and education support programs across Kajiado County, where we walk alongside students by guiding, encouraging, and empowering them with knowledge, career guidance, and life skills that equip them with confidence, values, and skills to navigate life successfully.

Our approach combines interactive mentorship sessions, the provision of essential learning materials and dignity kits, and awareness talks on mental health, hygiene & sanitation, self-care/love/esteem/confidence, and environmental stewardship.

So far, we have reached 1,249 learners and plan to reach another 213 this October before the long holiday.

Our main aim is to inspire:

  1. Girls - to stay focused and build resilience and confidence in fighting for their rights and future
  2. Boys - to educate them on the need to support and protect their sisters, mothers, and aunties in their surroundings. In simple terms, nurturing positive masculinity.
