Keeping My Academic Dreams Alive: A Voice from Afghanistan

I am writing these words from Afghanistan—a place where, overnight, the doors to my university, my future, and my dreams were locked. As a young woman whose life was built around books, learning, and the ambition to grow, witnessing the sudden end of my formal education was a heartbreak words can barely describe. The classrooms where we once built our hopes are now silent, and for millions of girls like me, the world has suddenly become very small. But windows cannot be blocked forever, and a mind that craves knowledge cannot be truly imprisoned. Living under these severe educational restrictions has been an emotional storm, filled with days of uncertainty and quiet tears. Yet, in the middle of this darkness, I discovered that I still possess a powerful, unbreakable weapon: my pen and my voice.Writing has become my sanctuary, my survival mechanism, and my ultimate act of resilience. When everything else was taken away, my words remained mine. I refuse to let my dreams fade into the shadows. I refuse to let the silence win. Through my writing, I keep the spark of my academic goals alive, reminding myself and the world that Afghan women are strong, resilient, and still dreaming.I have joined World Pulse because I believe in the power of global solidarity. I am here to share the story of my journey and the collective heartbeat of my sisters in Afghanistan who refuse to give up. My greatest hope is to connect with mentors, find a global community of support, and discover alternative educational paths or scholarships that can help me continue my studies. No matter how dark the night gets, I will keep writing, learning, and hoping for the day the doors open again. Thank you for listening to my voice, for holding space for my story, and for proving that I am not alone in this journey.By: Mahnaz Dihqanpur
